Local Church Provides Free Prom Dresses to Deserving Students

Posted: Updated:
SAVANNAH, GA -

At first it seems like one of those things just to good to be true - a formal dress, beautiful shoes and accessories. Everything a girl needs for the prom, and all for free. But no, it is true, and it's all here for some young women who find themselves in need!

New Covenant Church of Savannah has created a place called Lydia's Closet.
A young lady in financial need can come here and find everything she needs for the prom - there are jewelry and other accessories, purses, shoes, and yes, the all important dress!

The church asks five dollars admission to the closet, to offset the cost of dry cleaning. But the clothes, jewelry and shoes are free of charge.

Tracy Young and her husband, Pastor Andrew Young, say it's ministry they know will matter.

"Lydia's Closet is another example of how we can reach out to others in a loving way and are able to help someone's high school dream come true," says Tracy Young.

The church still needs many donations of prom dresses and other accessories.

If you can help out, or you'd like to get one of these dresses for a deserving girl, you can contact New Covenant Church at (912) 232-5658.
