More Sick People Filling Local Hospitals

More sick people are visiting Savannah hospitals, filling emergency rooms and hospital beds. And so much so that last night ambulances were diverted from Candler and Memorial Health to St. Joseph's.

Officials say the real story behind that is just that there are more sick people this time of year. They say colder weather keeps people indoors longer and viral infections can spread more quickly and easily.

They are seeing more upper respiratory problems which may be complicated by  allergies. They suggest when possible, that people visit their primary care doctors or an allergist first instead of the emergency room.
