SAVANNAH, GA -

A man in police custody caused some tense moments outside of St. Joesph's Candler Hospital on Mercy Boulevard Tuesday night. Just after 9:00pm, a man who was being escorted by police in the emergency department, attempted to leave the hospital without authority.

St. Joseph's Candler Hospital Spokesman Scott Larson tells WSAV.com the man had turned himself into police earlier that day for outstanding warrants. Larson says the suspect became ill and requested to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The man attempted to leave the hospital upon arrival, and detectives apprehended him in the parking lot.

No one was injured, and no patients were in danger, Larson adds.

Police were not available to provide the suspect's name. The man is in custody, Larson says.
