The Department of Defense announced on Sunday that another 3RD Infantry Division soldier has died in Afghanistan. 37 year old Chief Warrant Officer James E. Groves III of Kettering, Ohio was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
He died March 16th in Kandahar, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, Hunter Army Airfield. The incident in which Groves died is under investigation.
A Kiowa pilot, Chief Warrant Officer Groves joined the Army in August 2001 and arrived at the unit in June 2009. This was his fourth deployment. His awards include the Air Medal.
