Former Hilton Head Island
Community Leader Cartha ‘Deke' DeLoach, 92, died this week. Funeral services are Saturday. Former Deputy
Director of the FBI, then Vice President of Pepsico, Beaufort County Sheriff PJ
Tanner said DeLoach was a ‘CEO' through and through but always a classic
gentleman. When he moved to Hilton Head,
he instantly connected with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, becoming a
huge supporter and connector.
"He helped. He
brought training down here. He still had a lot of contacts at FBI headquarters.
If you needed something and hit a stumbling block, all you had to do is call
him and it would cut all of the red tape," Captain Bob Bromage said.
"He was dedicated to
the end. We really lost a good friend to law enforcement and a good friend to
the community of Hilton Head," Sheriff PJ Tanner said.
