HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -
It's a sad day for folks in the lowcountry. Cartha "Deke" DeLoach passed away Wednesday evening of natural causes.
DeLoach was a former Deputy Director for the FBI under J. Edgar Hoover, and served as Grand Marshal for the 2005 St. Patrick's Day Parade on Hilton Head. He's also the father to Greg DeLoach, assistant town manager.
Deke DeLoach was known for his heavy involvement in the Hilton Head community and in 1996 was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, which is the highest civilian award given, by former Governor David Beasley.
