WSAV.com has learned that resident are now being allowed to return to their homes in the area of Shipyard Road and Lehigh Ave. Since about 3:30pm Wednesday, authorities have been on the scene trying to cap a 4-inch natural gas pipeline. It is believed that a construction accident led to the gas line rupture.
An area more than 3 city blocks was evacuated, due to fears from the powerful leak. Crews were able to cap the leak without incident, officials say.
