STATESBORO, GA -

A Georgia Southern University student has died from injures he received after being struck by a vehicle, student newspaper George-Anne reports.

The paper cites the Dean Of Students: "The Dean of Students office is deeply saddened by this tragic loss of Nicklaus Ward today, our thoughts and prayers are with the student's family and friends during this very difficult time"

Reports say the student was injured after an alleged intoxicated driver struck him while walking from class on February 8th. Ward was being treated in Savannah since the accident.

The George-Ann details: In regards to the charges that the driver will face, The George-Anne reported on Feb. 12 that Trooper First Class Hutchison, investigator in charge of the accident, said, "If Mr. Ward doesn't make it, more charges will come. Serious Injury From Vehicle is a felony — it will all be based on the investigation."

Counseling services for students are available through the University's Counseling and Career Development Center, the paper reports.

Local businesses and student groups are working to hold fundraisers and events for the family. Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
