BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. -

A Hardeeville woman accused of stealing and using the credit cards of an elderly hospice patient is under arrest.

Shamika Kawanda Smart, 31, turned herself into the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Monday morning.

On January 21st, the 88-year-old victim told staff at the Hawthorne Inn that she couldn't find three of her credit cards that she kept in her room.

It was later discovered that those cards had been used to rack up more than $10,000 in purchases, authorities said.

The Sheriff's Office says investigators located surveillance video of those cards being used by Smart and her aunt, 51-year-old Fannette Renee Housey.

Housey was arrested on February 15th on one count of Financial Transaction Card Fraud and has since been released on bond.

Smart, who worked as a med tech at Hawthorne Inn, is charged with one count of Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult.

Her bond is set at $50,000.
