Sequestration Won't Impact Existing SCMPD Funds

SAVANNAH, GA -

The Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department won't immediately feel the affects if the sequestration kicks in.

The Department issued a statement today. Chief Willie Lovett says his office was advised by the city's finance department that any potential sequestration is not expected to affect funding on existing federal grants.

Lovett went on say that doesn't mean the department will be totally unscathed if the across the board budget cuts kick in. Lovett says like all  police departments, his depends on some federal funding.    The Chief says he hopes the sequestration can be avoided.
