Heavy Rains Cause Flooding in Lowcountry

Hardeeville, SC -

The rain's fallen for days, increasing water levels at neighborhood ponds and local rivers, and even though Beaufort County hadn't seen any major problems, Jasper County saw some flooding. Local business R & K Automotive's parking lot was underwater Tuesday morning.

"It was actually all the way up here, but it's gone down a little, it's moving across the street. It's an inconvenience. You get wet, but other than that it's ok," said Jesse Arzillo.

But having a parking lot under water did slow things down.

"It's kind of slow, but this is the first time it's ever happened to us. Hopefully it will be the last, just gotta wait it out, walk through water, it will be all right."

Now while they say they are not closing, as you can see a majority of the R & K Automotive parking lot is under water and it's flooding like this that led the Royal Live Oaks Academy to have an early dismissal this morning."

"There was a lot of flooding in the area. We had more than 100 students out because they just could not get here. We even had some teachers that couldn't get here. And we wanted to do the safe thing and be proactive and not wait until we had a real emergency," said Dr. Karen Wicks, executive director.

Luckily there were no real emergencies in Beaufort or Jasper counties, but authorities say the rain did slow down the morning commute.
