Samuel Carr's truck hydroplaned, crossed median and collided with school bus
Georgia State Patrol has identified the driver of a pickup truck who died in a crash with a school bus in south Georgia.
State patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson says 59-year-old Samuel Carr was killed when his pickup truck hydroplaned on an Odum highway and sent him into the path of an oncoming school bus Monday afternoon.
Thirteen students were hospitalized with minor injuries after the accident.
The students were traveling from Cedar Wood School in Wayne County, when the crash happened on Highway 341. Initial reports from the scene indicate the driver may have hydroplaned into the bus.
The adults and a few of the children sitting in the front of the bus, received the most injuries according to the hospital CEO, Joseph Ierardi.
He says the injuries consist of mostly bumps, bruises and scrapes. The children's injuries are not life threatening, Ieraidi says.
Wayne County School Superintendent Dr. Daryl Fineran, and other school board member were on hand to lend support to families. Fineran says they are saddened to hear the driver of the truck has died but count their blessings that the students and adults on board are okay.
