12 year old Morgan Dewberry helped collect 141 Teddy Bears for The Children's Hospital
A "bear" of a story about helping kids, all thanks to one very special young girl.
141 teddy bears were donated to the Bearable Hugs program at The Children's Hospital at Memorial Medical Center.
The Georgia Department of Human Services Bearable Hugs Program accepts donations of teddy bears and other stuffed animals from generous members of the community and distributes them around Valentine's Day to children receiving care at pediatric facilities, women's and homeless shelters, law enforcement agencies and other children's organizations in the region and throughout Georgia.
The Chatham County District Attorney's office's child support services is also chipping in to make a child's day a little brighter.
One young lady, Morgan Dewberry, is responsible for the big donation.
The 12-year old got all the students at St. Andrew's School organized and in the giving spirit.
"I love seeing people smile and I feel like that's what it will make the kids do," said Morgan. "It helps me help them, feeling happy. You earn it, you don't just get it from something, you have to earn your keep." "And you did that?" "Yeah, I guess."
Morgan has been helping out with these type of events since she was in second grade, and hopes to make it bigger and better next year.
District Attorney's Office Public Information Officer Daniel Baxter stated that, "The DA's Office and Child Support Services is very pleased with the success of this year's Bearable Hugs Program; due largely in part to Morgan's participation. Morgan deserves praise for the selfless generosity of her time and efforts in ensuring that children receiving medical attention at The Children's Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center have a reason to smile."
