Beaufort Marine Station Issues Sequestration Statement

Posted: Updated:
BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. -

Monday, leaders with the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort circulated a statement to civilian employees and members of the media, regarding the installation's stance on likely sequestration. Reports suggest the civilian contractors would likely see the first cuts if the process is allowed to continue.

Full statement issued on the installation:

All civilians aboard Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort received a letter from the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James F. Amos, last week, outlining their importance to the Marine Corps, and reassuring his dedication that he will do his utmost to ensure the Marine Corps continues to accomplish its mission while keeping faith with them. The Commanding Officer of MCAS Beaufort has asked all leaders aboard the Air Station to prioritize their missions to ensure effective operations, regardless of any future impacts of sequestration.

"The Air Station takes sequestration very seriously and will continue to inform our civilian employees of everything we know, when we know it.  We are all one team here at the Air Station - Marines, sailors and civilians. I am committed to working through any future budgetary impacts as a team," said Col. Brian Murtha, the commanding officer  of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
