New Murder Trial for Jerry Scantling Begins

Jury selection got underway Monday morning in a second trial for murder suspect Jerry Lamont Scantling.

Scantling is accused of gunning down Leonard Green, 52, during a robbery attempt on Pinckney Island in May 2010.

A mistrial was declared in October during Scantling's original trial after one juror backed out because of religious beliefs and an alternate juror realized he had worked with Green at Hilton Head Hospital.

Solicitor Duffie Stone's office says pre-trial motions are being heard this afternoon.

Opening statements could happen Tuesday morning with the trial lasting the rest of the week.
