The rain didn't stop folks in the lowcountry from enjoying some chili Saturday.
Neighbors came out to the Tanger Outlets for the second annual Bluffton Self Help "Chili Cook Off" and had a chance to sample recipes from chefs from across the region as they competed for the honor of best chili.
But chefs and organizers say this event is about more than just food, and competition-- it's about giving back to the community.
"We're out here first of all to raise money, second of all to have a great time... that's what it's all about.and as long as those two things can come together we are very lucky people," said Hilton Head Chef, Scott Bishop.
The idea of having a chili cook off ties in with the message and mission of Bluffton Self Help.
"We wanted to have a kind of tie in because we do provide food. The lowcountry is great cause you can't pick a weekend out of the year that you don't attend some kind of festival.and we looked at the International Chili Society, and it didn't have an event in our area, and it was just a good fit for our Bluffton community.and hopefully it will be a great draw and we'll be here in the future," said BSH Board president, Tray Hunter.
All of the proceeds will go to help Bluffton Self Help to help provide food, clothing, and financial assistance to those in need in Beaufort County.
