Posted: Updated:
HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. -

Released Friday by the Fourteenth Judicial Court:

A former Hampton County Sheriff's Deputy was indicted on Thursday, February 21 on several counts related to the molestation of a student. The Hampton County Grand Jury indicted 52-year-old Larry Heyward on one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor between 11 and 14-year-old, committing a lewd act on a minor and misconduct in public office.

Heyward was employed by the Hampton County Sheriff's Office, where he worked as a school resource officer at the time of the incidents. He was terminated after a male student came forward to report he had been abused on multiple occasions between August 2010 and December 2012. The State Law Enforcement Division was called in to investigate. That investigation is still ongoing

Now that indictments have been handed down, the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor's Office will move forward with preparing the case for trial. As with all defendants, Heyward is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
