Minor Ogeechee Flooding

Posted: Updated:
Chatham County -

In tonight's community report-- the Ogeechee River is experiencing some flooding.

But there is no need for panic if you live along the river-- because it's only minor flooding right now.

Here's a look at the river from Morgan bridge-- located just off of Highway 204 near the Chatham -Bryan County line.

But more rain could possibly flood the river banks.

The National Weather Service issues alerts before rivers reach flood stages.

So if you live in the area, you should be receiving constant updates.

We spoke to a neighbor this afternoon who says the river does this about once a year.

"I've seen it very high, up 13 to 14 feet, and it really crosses over on to the land over here on some of these homeowners over here on our right," says Dale Canterbury.

"But it's going to get a little higher and we will probably get another foot out of the river over the weekend. So who knows what's going to happen next weekend?"
