Chief Lovett Addresses Crime Numbers, Investigation

Posted: Updated:

Also on the minds of council and many around the area, crime.

Specifically the controversy over crime numbers in Savannah.

Chief Willie Lovett and all his precinct captains made a presentation about crime to the Savannah City Council Thursday.

So far this year the numbers have been good, and there are plans to improve safety even more on the horizon.

There is still a possible FBI investigation hanging over Savannah's Chief's head, all over allegations of non-reporting of crimes and intimidation of residents who wanted to speak out.

The chief addressed that issue with WSAV News 3.

"They can say whatever they want, but when it all comes out I'm sure they will find that everything is above board," said a defiant Chief Lovett. "Their problem is the damage has been done. When you have people who's dedicated and do what they do and then somebody is going to come back later and say well I'm sorry, what does that do? There are some things you just can't fix."

"There's not been a shred of evidence that any of this took place, nobody has ever said anything about it. I'm willing to wait. The FBI will release their findings sooner or later, we will wait."

The GBI said they would not investigate the allegations because there was no actual crime committed.

So far the FBI has not said if they will investigate, or what, if anything, they have found.
