HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -
Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigators have identified a suspect in the February 17th shooting at a Hilton Head apartment complex.
Twenty-five year old Dayne Edward Wright of Ridgeland is wanted on one count of Attempted Murder and one count of Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Violent Crime in connection with the Sunday afternoon shooting at Hilton Head Gardens that injured a 31-year old Hardeeville man.
Deputies responded to the apartments (11 Southwood Park Dr) at approximately 4:30 pm Sunday in reference to multiple reports of shots fired near a pond in the apartment complex. While en route, deputies also received notification that a gunshot victim had arrived at the Hilton Head Hospital emergency room.
Deputies made contact with the victim at the hospital, who was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. He advised that he and a friend had gone to the apartments to visit an unidentified female. As the two men were walking through the complex, they heard gunshots behind them.
The victim was struck several times. His friend, who was uninjured during the shooting, transported the victim to the hospital. The victim was transferred to Savannah for continuing medical treatment, where he remains in stable condition.
During the course of the investigation, it was learned that a long-standing feud between the victim and Wright may have fueled the shooting incident. Wright's last known address is 329 Cottage Farm Rd in Ridgeland, but he is known to frequent the Hilton Head Gardens area.
