The drought status across southeast south carolina and southeast georgia ranges from abnormally dry to extreme with some improvement noted over the past two weeks. Conditions on local streams and rivers have improved drastically to normal to above normal thanks to recent widespread significant rains. In fact...a few main stem rivers remain in minor flooding conditions. For the upcoming week...the pattern looks quite active with two distinct significant rainfall events expected through the middle of next week. The current outlook through early march from the climate prediction center indicates near normal to above normal precipitation and below normal temperatures for southeast south carolina and southeast georgia. The 3-month outlook through may shows above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation. With streams and rivers experiencing normal to above normal flows...including a few still in minor flooding...and more widespread significant rainfall on the way over the next 5 days...there is an above normal chance for river flooding.
