SAVANNAH, GA -

A sex offender who has been evading law enforcement officers since November was arrested in California.

30 year old Christopher Walter was arrested by San Francisco Police Tuesday.

Investigators say Walter was riding his bicycle near an elementary school and when an officer approached him, he gave the officer a false name and was acting nervous.  Investigators said eventually Walter admitted he was wanted in Georgia.

Walter was convicted in 2002 in Georgia for Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes and has been labeled a sexual predator by the state.  Walter disabled his electronic ankle monitor on November 13 and had been missing ever since.  When the CCSO Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit last made contact with Walter he was living under the Talmadge Bridge in downtown Savannah.

Walter is facing probation violation charges and Failure to Register as a Sex Offender for leaving town without notifying authorities.

Walter will be extradited to Chatham County in the coming days or weeks.
