Monday, officials with the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office released new details about a shooting that happened Sunday afternoon.
"HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (February 18, 2013/9:00 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that left one man injured at a Hilton Head apartment complex yesterday afternoon.
Deputies responded to Hilton Head Gardens (11 Southwood Park Dr) at approximately 4:30 pm yesterday in reference to multiple reports of shots fired near a pond in the apartment complex. While en route, deputies also received notification that a gunshot victim had arrived at the Hilton Head Hospital emergency room.
Deputies made contact with a 31-year old Hardeeville man at the hospital, who was being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. He advised that he and a friend had gone to the apartments to visit an unidentified female. As the two men were walking through the complex, they heard gunshots behind them.
The victim was struck several times. His friend, who was uninjured during the shooting, transported the victim to the hospital. Neither the victim, nor his friend, was able to provide any description of the possible shooter(s), and no motive has been determined at this time. Despite receiving multiple reports of shots fired, investigators have been unable to locate any cooperating witnesses to the incident.
The victim has since been transferred to Savannah for continuing medical treatment. He remains in stable, but serious condition.
