The 27th annual Gullah Festival was in full swing this weekend during the annual art and food expo on Hilton Head Island.
From paintings, to grass baskets, and even jewelry - local artists displayed their work while folks shopped, ate and heard stories of the Gullah culture. Organizers say it's the present generation's duty to keep this legacy alive.
"We have to because if we don't, then we're going to lose it and we can't let that happen. It's going to survive as long as we are here. And we want the children to learn and others as well," said Louise Cohen.
