Travel Alert: Weekend Roadwork On Abercorn

SAVANNAH, GA -

The Georgia Department Of Transportation released the following statement Wednesday:

WHEN:          7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, February 16, weather permitting.

WHERE:       Eastbound S.R. 204/Abercorn Street between Holland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard in Chatham County.

WHAT:          Contractors for Georgia DOT will be installing a temporary eastbound double lane closure on S.R.204/Abercorn Street between Holland Drive and Wilshire Boulevard. This double lane closure has been scheduled from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday, February 16, weather permitting.  This necessity for a double lane closure is median construction. Motorists will be able to access businesses, schools, and residences in the area.

Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes. Motorists are urged to drive carefully and stay alert as they travel through this area and use alternate routes if possible.

Georgia DOT wants to remind motorists that nearly all states have laws that increase the penalties for speeding or committing other traffic violations while in a construction work zone.  Motorists should reduce their speed in these and all work zones.
