Aviolent start to the year for Savannah's Southside, particularly in the Windsor Forest Neighborhood prompted some community intervention tonight.
Neighbors and leaders met with the new Southside Precinct Captain and other police and city officials.
They voiced their concerns and why it's important for people to be active in taking their communities back.
Alderman Tony Thomas has been vocal about his concerns on crime and the actual crime statistics for the city. He says people want to feel safe.
"Well I think that folks here are looking for proactive policing, more patrol and looking to get a grip on what's really going on. And to take control of our streets and to get our streets backs."
SCMPD Spokesman Julian Miller says crimes are solved when the community gets involved.
"It gives us a chance to interact and that's why this relationship is so important. As Chief Lovett always says, the Police Department cannot do this on their own. It's a community effort and it's going to take everyone."
