Sheriff’s Office Investigating Strong Arm Robbery

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a strong arm robbery that occurred last night in Bluffton.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Simmons Cay apartments just after 7 pm last night in reference to a robbery and assault occurring moments earlier. Upon arrival, deputies met with a 29-year old male victim who advised that he had been jumped by a group of unknown black males.

The victim reported that he and a friend were hanging out, drinking beers in the wooded area adjacent to Simmons Cay apartments when a group of five black males approached them. One of the suspects asked the victim for money. When he replied that he didn't have any, the suspect reportedly picked up a concrete block and threw it at the victim, knocking him to the ground.

After striking the victim with a belt several times and taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim, the suspects fled the area in multiple directions.

The victim sustained minor injuries not requiring medical attention. The victim's friend was unharmed during the incident. No further description of the suspects was available from either party.

Anyone with information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. B. Cooler at 843-255-3423 or Crimestoppers.
