Georgia Day Parade

SAVANNAH, GA -

Georgia History Festival Georgia Day Parade CANCELLED

Despite an earlier decision that the parade was a go, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System staff have since walked the route and decided that there is too much standing water and the parade is now CANCELLED.

WSAV is proud to bring you the annual Georgia Day Parade through the historic squares of downtown Savannah.

Program note: Parade organizers are watching the weather closely. In the event of rain, the parade may be canceled. Watch WSAV and WSAV.com for updates.

Thousands of costumed local elementary school children march behind their hand-made banners in commemoration of Georgia's founding in 1733. A colorful parade of students, musicians, local dignitaries, and costumed characters is preceded by a military color guard and marching band. Beginning at Forsyth Park and continuing around all five squares of Bull Street, the procession culminates with a program in front of City Hall. (Zvents)

From Savannah/Chatham Metro Police:

The Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's Traffic Unit will close several Downtown roads to vehicle traffic along the Georgia Day Parade route.

Beginning at 8 A.M. on Tuesday, February 12, Gaston Street between Drayton and Whitaker Streets will serve as the drop-off area for school buses transporting parade participants to the staging area.

A moving road block will be set up along Bull street between Charlton Street and Bryan Street. Officers will be positioned at: Liberty Street, Broughton Street and Oglethorpe Avenue to deter vehicle traffic as parade participants pass these posts. Traffic flow will resume as participants clear the specified intersections.

Detours will be arranged on Bay Street between Drayton and Whitaker Streets. Westbound vehicles will be sent southbound on Price Street. Bay Street's Eastbound traffic will be sent southbound on Whitaker Street. Near City Hall, Bay Street will be limited to one lane of westbound traffic to accommodate the event stage during its setup and removal processes.

Marked "no parking zones" will be set up until the event ends in the following areas: Bull Street between Bryan and Bay Streets, the school bus unloading zone at Gaston Street between Drayton and Whitaker Streets, and the school bus parking area on both sides of Bay Street between Bull and Habersham Streets. No parking zones will be marked by SCMPD officers Monday afternoon.
