Midtown Shooting Sends Woman to Hospital

Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police are investigating e a shooting that sent a woman to the hospital Tuesday night in Savannah.  It happened when shots rang out around 9 PM on the corner of Park Avenue and Montgomery.

Update From Police: 1/30:

"Metro police are investigating the shooting of a Savannah woman in front of her apartment house Tuesday night. Crystal Williams, 31, was transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment of injuries considered not to be life threatening. Downtown Precinct patrol officers from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were in the neighborhood on another call when they heard the shots and found the victim with wounds on the 400 block of West Park Avenue.

They were told a man exited a car, fired at a small group talking in front of the apartment and re-entered the car that drove away about 8:55 p.m. Violent Crimes detectives from SCMPD continue to investigate the shooting.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at (912) 234-2020 or text CRIMES (274637). In the body type, include "CStop2020" plus the tip. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward. "

Police say someone got out of a car and opened fire into a group of people standing on the porch of an apartment in the 400 block of Park Avenue.  Police were already in the area investigating a report of gunshots fired when the shooting happened.  "We now have an investigation going on. We had some officers close by-- close enough to run over and they heard shots because they were checking on another call, so we got here pretty and quickly and now we are just trying to figure out exactly what happened and why," said SCMPD spokesman Julian Miller.

Police have not released the name or condition of the woman shot, but say she was conscious and was speaking when she was transported to the hospital.  There's no information at this point about a suspect or motive in the shooting.
