Our Hometown -- Better In Metter

By Andrew Davis

So far this week in our trip around Metter, we've introduced you to the next sausage making star...

McKenzie Newkirs says, "I want to start in the state of Georgia. Eventually start in restaurants, every retail store out there. Then I want to go worldwide, hit every 50 states out there."

Shownyou the beauty of Guido Gardens. Eaten at Edenfield's. And headed out to "the Jungle" to watch the Tigers win again.

"I still have dreams about going back on that field. I'd do it all over again."

All of these are part of what makes Our hometown so great.  Wait.. Did I say great?  That's not how they say it in Metter.

"Everything is better in Metter."

It's a slogan, 35 years old, that's now made t-shirts, coffee mugs, even bumper stickers... but is it true?  So I went around the town - looking for answers to why it's really "better."

"Metter is community. We play ball together, we attend church together. Anything you can do as a community we do together, and we do it better than anyone."

"It's getting better!"

"We all have a lot of personality and great characters."

"Small town, less traffic, less hassle, no rat race, can't complain."

"It's close to Georgia Southern, it's close to the coast. A lot of good people, a lot of Southern hospitality."

"I don't know anyplace like it. Friendly community, everybody knows and likes everybody. That just makes a difference. Everywhere you go, smiles on everybody's face. It's not like that most other places."

"You won't find a better bunch of people anywhere. That's what makes Metter better."

"Metter has always been a town where everybody likes each other. Everybody knows each other's business and it's a great place to raise kids."

"Well since I've lived here about 12 hours now, so far hopefully it will be."

"The family, the friends, the camaraderie, the closeness of the community."

"Say Go Tigers Go!  See you there."

"I love Metter. Been here all my life, don't want to leave."

"Everybody knows everybody, everybody gives everybody money. And it's a nice place to live."

"Because we're the town with the Tigers and this is their year."

"There's not as much traffic. Football team is better."

"The football team at Metter High. That's my daddy!"

"You don't even drive, what are you worried about traffic for?"  "I like to get to games fast."

"We're a small town with great personality. We love to have visitors come through and greet them in our small town. We are grateful for our small town."

"They are warm and friendly that Southern hospitality."

"The people, the town, great place to live, great people to be around."

"It just is."

No matter what your reason... it's obvious.  The answer in Our Hometown is always the same...

"Everything -- everything -- everything -- everything"

"Everything is better in Metter, not anything, everything."
