Russ Riesinger is a veteran television news journalist who people in the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry have come to know and trust over the years. Russ joined the WSAV team in January of 2004 and currently anchors WSAV News 3 at 5, 5:30, 6, 10 & 11pm. Since then, WSAV has been awarded Georgia's "AP Best Newscast" a number of times and most recently won a Murrow Award for "Best Newscast" this past year. During his 30 year career in television news, Russ has reported on everything from presidential campaigns, to baseball's World Series, to some of the worst storms ever to hit the eastern coast of the United States.
Russ came to WSAV-TV from WCNC-TV in Charlotte, NC, where he spent nearly six years (1998-2003) and co-anchored North Carolina's "AP Best Newscast" for three straight years. He also anchored the main newscasts at WCHS-TV in Charleston, WV (1995-1998) and was a weekend anchor and reporter for WTVD-TV in Durham, NC (1991-1995).
Before moving into news, Russ worked as a sportscaster at WRCB-TV in Chattanooga, TN (1986-1991), where he covered SEC football and basketball and the Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Hawks. He also covered sports in Joplin, MO (1983-1986) and Billings, MT (1981-1983), where he began his television career.
Russ is a graduate of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, where he studied psychology and communication. He also has a master's degree in communication and leadership studies from Gonzaga University. Russ is dedicated to making our community a better place. He serves on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Coastal empire, volunteers for the United Way, sits on the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and emcees a number of events. In his spare time, Russ enjoys gardening, fishing and boating, and playing baseball for the Savannah Reds in the Savannah Adult Baseball League.
