NC WEATHER: Labor Day weekend hot; rain possible

Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

After five days below 90, the heat of summer will return the rest of the week and into Labor Day weekend in central North Carolina.

Each day this week, temperatures have gone up by about four degrees.  With that trend continuing today, highs will reach into the 90s.  Look for mostly sunny skies with a little more humidity.  The high will be 92.  Our normal high this time of year is 87.  A cold front will approach the Virginia and North Carolina border late in the day and with it there will be a slight risk of a shower or storm near the front.

Tonight will be partly cloudy and an isolated shower or thundershower will be possible as the cold front stalls.  The overnight low will be around 68.

The front will hanging around the northern part of central North Carolina on Friday, and with it will be a very small chance of a shower or storm.  Otherwise it will be partly sunny with a high around 89.  South of the Triangle it will be back in the lower 90s again.

The front that will divide our temperatures on Friday will move north on Saturday and highs will be more uniform right around 90 degrees.  Skies on Saturday will be partly sunny.  On Sunday, we will have just a slight risk of a PM shower or storm, otherwise it will be partly sunny with highs in the upper 80s to near 90.  Labor Day will have some clouds with a couple showers or storms possible.  Highs on Monday will be once again right around 90.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with a chance of a shower or storm.  Temperatures will stay above normal with a high again around 90.  Wednesday will be partly sunny with a slight risk of a shower or storm and highs in the upper 80s

In the tropics, Hurricane Cristobal continues to stay away from any land.  The hurricane continues to move northeast and was about 600 miles south southwest of  Nova Scotia, Canada.  Rip currents and higher than normal surf will start to decrease along the North Carolina coast today and Friday.
