Bluffton Celebrates MLK with Ceremony and Parade

1/21/13 -

Neighbors in the lowcountry also remembered Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual memorial service and parade in Bluffton.

Local officials, agencies, and schools showcased their talents at the annual remembrance ceremony. Groups performed songs, and dances and then walked around Bluffton to show their appreciation for Dr. King and his message.

"It means a lot for us to be out here...we actually decided to do this at the last minute so that's why the rest of our team isn't here, but it just means a lot to us and we want to be a part of it," said Bluffton High School cheerleader, Raven Fields.

And for community leaders, it was a chance to spread the message of unity.

"We are very diverse, we are from different churches, different nationalities, and this march with us participating is a perfect opportunity to show that we want to unify the community and put people back on a positive track for positive purposes," said Rev. Paul Hamilton.

Town officials say other than this being a great event, it brings people together to join hands and remember someone who was so influential in out country's history.

"This is a town where people just love each other they don't look at color, they don't look at age, sex, anything like that, we just all appreciate each other's efforts in making the town great," said Mayor Lisa Sulka.

A great town celebrating a great man...
