ATLANTA (AP) - Records show the fundraising wing of the Georgia Senate Republican Caucus hasn't filed a mid-year campaign finance report. Senate Majority Leader Ronnie Chance says the caucus has been transitioning to a new political action committee and pointed to state law that doesn't require filing until a PAC reaches $25,000 in combined contributions or expenditures in a calendar year.
DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Prosecutors say the former chief operating officer of the DeKalb County school district - Patricia Reid - has been sentenced in a racketeering and theft scheme along with her ex-husband and the district's ex-superintendent. Officials say Reid was convicted of redirecting more than $1.4 million in contracts to her ex-husband's architectural firm.
ATLANTA (AP) - Police in Atlanta say they are investigating how a man was slain after he answered a knock on his apartment door. Authorities say only that the victim was in his 30s and was gunned down at the Auburn Glenn Apartments late Sunday night by someone with a handgun.
ATLANTA (AP) - The president of Spelman College has been awarded a national academic leadership honor from the Carnegie Corp. Beverly Tatum is one of four college presidents named as a recipient of the honor. Tatum is also the first president of a Historically Black College or University, and the first college president from Georgia to be given the award.
