ATLANTA (AP) - A former state lawmaker says a New York City event billed as a fundraiser for Georgia's Democratic Party was unethical and illegal. John Douglas says the March 23 fundraiser violated rules prohibiting Jason Carter from raising money while serving in the Georgia legislature. Carter, a Democrat, is challenging GOP Gov. Nathan Deal.

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Henry County police officer shot and killed a woman in Hampton. Police responding to a 911 call heard a woman screaming inside a home. Officers encountered a woman armed with a weapon. Police say she made a move toward the weapon before she was shot.

DALLAS, Ga. (AP) - Plans to create what would be metro Atlanta's second commercial airport have prompted concerns ranging from noise at a National Park to potential harm to rare fish in nearby streams. The concerns are outlined in an environmental assessment for Silver Comet Field in Dallas.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A grand jury has charged a former secretary in the Douglas County district attorney's office with stealing more than $7,000 through fraudulent billing. The Georgia attorney general's office says Tammie Agan faces charges of false statements and writings and theft by taking. Agan's lawyer didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
