ATLANTA (AP) - A lawyer for a Georgia death row inmate has filed a new challenge to the state's requirement for defendants to prove intellectual disability beyond a reasonable doubt to be spared execution on those grounds. Brian Kammer, a lawyer for Warren Lee Hill, filed the lawsuit yesterday.

ATLANTA (AP) - A jury has convicted three men in the shooting death of an Atlanta rapper known as Lil Phat. Melvin Vernell III was shot and killed in June 2012 outside a hospital where he was awaiting the birth of his child. Prosecutors say the three men conspired to kill Vernell in retaliation for a drug robbery.

CHATSWORTH, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in north Georgia say four people are dead after a pickup truck lost control and went off the road, killing a man who was riding a lawnmower nearby. Murray County Sheriff's Department Maj. Greg Fowler says the pickup around a curve went off the road and struck 57-year-old Bryan Bartley.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina woman who authorities say is known as "Lady Jamaica" has admitted lying to federal agents during their investigation of the kidnapping of a North Carolina prosecutor's father. Chason Renee Chase pleaded guilty Thursday. The victim was later rescued in Atlanta.
