SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - At least two people have been injured in a shootout that started on Emerald Street and ended on Waters Ave.
The shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Emerald Street between May Street and MLK Jr. Blvd. Police say 10-15 rounds were fired during a gunfight between two parties, leaving two males injured.
One of the injured males hopped into a white Ford Expedition with another gentleman and sped away. Officers were on the lookout for that white SUV when another officer spotted it at 42nd and Waters Ave.
It quickly became clear to officers that the passenger was shot at King Frazier Homes, the driver was taking him to the hospital. Meanwhile, the other victim was being treated at King Frazier Homes.
Both individuals were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The male transported from the SUV was shot in the chest, the bullet is still lodged in his back. The other victim has non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of that White Ford Expedition has been taken into custody for questioning.
EMS, police vehicles and a helicopter were in the area. Savannah police say there is no imminent threat to the public. they are beefing up patrols in both neighborhoods. Investigators are also trying to determine which of the men started the gunfight.
