United Way of the Coastal Empire 100 percent of donations will go directly to the families of these local victims. Other participating banksAn overwhelming number of banking institutions have stepped forward to participate in the relief efforts to benefit the Imperial Sugar Refinery disaster by allowing individuals to contribute to United Way’s Sugar Refinery Family Support Fund. Every dollar contributed to the United Way through participating banks will be used to provide victims with immediate needs and the coordination and implementation of long-term recovery efforts. Participating banks include BB&T, Bryan Bank & Trust, Bank of America, Carver State Bank, Coastal Bank, Darby Bank, First Chatham Bank and its subsidiaries, The Savannah Bank, Sea Island Bank, SunTrust and Wachovia.
