Imperial Sugar is hosting a blood drive with Shepeard Community Blood Center, which is the exclusive provider of blood products to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital where the victims of an explosion at the sugar refinery are being treated. Donors are asked to go to the Port Wentworth Gym at 101 Turnberry on Wednesday, April 30, between 7 AM and 2 PM.

On Tuesday, the first day of the blood drive, 144 people from the Savannah area went to donate blood. Imperial Sugar employees donated blood and thanked the many other donors for their kindness. A highlight of the day was a visit from 5 of the recovering burn victims, who thanked donors and enjoyed socializing with their co-workers.

In addition to the Imperial Sugar employees, other burn victims from throughout GA and surrounding states and critically ill patients at the hospitals served by Shepeard will benefit from the blood donated in Port Wentworth. In the last 5 years, 400 burn victims have come from the Savannah area alone.

Blood donors will receive a free t-shirt, a free meal compliments of Delimart and free beverages compliments of Savannah Coca-Cola.
