One corner on Savannah's Southside is a hub for hope tonight. This moment belongs to courageous cancer survivors. People who have walked the journey with them are stepping out again to help fight back at Relay for Life.

For the first time a national cancer prevention study is an addition to Relay. Waist measurements and blood samples are just part of the research involving men and women between the ages of 30 to 65 who have never had cancer. This national study focuses on the link between genetics and general lifestyle choices.

"So that we can get some information on what causes cancer may be. What behavioral patterns, genetics, and what are some ways to prevent it," says ACS Staff Member Kylene Hartsfield.

"I have family members that are cancer survivors,” says study participant Marilyn Johnson.  “I just want to do anything I can to help prevent cancer. If it’s one person that this study will help then it's worthwhile."

You still have time to participate in Relay. A fight back ceremony is planned for midnight, and the "miss" relay pageant begins at 1 a.m. People will be walking the track at Benedictine until closing ceremonies at 7 a.m. tomorrow.
