The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests parents reduce sedentary time, and increase physical activity.  Now you might just be able to make your kids think it was all their idea.

6-year-old Megan is learning ballet through a new toy.  She says, "I love to dance a lot."  The Bella Dancerella dvd teachers her the steps she does on the included matt and ballet bar.  It's a workout disguised as play.  Megan says, "It felt like fun and exercise. It kind of felt like both."  The shelves of Toys R Us are filled with new products that offer both.  Dance Revolution isn't new, but a new version is more affordable. It plugs right into your TV without needing a dvd player or game system.

Younger kids might prefer some catch games.  Elefun and Freddy and his Flying Fish shoot toys into the air for kids to catch.  For the sports enthusiasts, there are a bunch of options. ESPN Fast Action Football features digital players controled by your kid's feet.  The faster they run, the faster their teams score.  There is also Nerf Shootout Hoops. It features a moving net and effects which might  lure some kids away from the joysticks. If these price tags seem a little bit too high for your budget don't forget the old tried and true sports equipment which average $5 at Toys R Us.  5 year-old Avery is going for lower ticket items that move him.
His mom Cindy says,"Lots of baseballs, hot wheels, skate boards, anything that rolls really fast."   Avery's love of activity isn't by accident.  His mom helped.  Cindy says,  "I don't really like the games where he just sits in front of the TV. I always said I'd never buy those."  Now more shoppers like her are looking for active toys and this year they might just find something to move the kids on their lists.
