Randi Hempel is WSAV NEWS 3’s local Education Reporter. She comes to us from KRCG in Jefferson City/Columbia, MO where she also worked the education beat. She was also the anchor of the area's top-rated morning show. Honored for her work there by the Associated Press, Randi is also a very active member of the community. In Missouri, she was a mentor at a local high school. She served on the selection committee for Jefferson City’s Teacher of the Year. Randi served on the Board of Directors of the local chapter of the American Red Cross and as a station representative for the Partner in Education program. And though, as a journalist, her feet are usually planted solidly on the ground, she ran in a number of 5k runs and really put her head in the clouds Skydiving with the Skyhawks, the Canadian Forces Parachute Team.
Randi began her career as a reporter at a cable news station in New Jersey and also gained valuable experience spending time at Court TV and ABC News in New York City.
Randi graduated Magna Cum Lauda from William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. While at William Paterson, Randi anchored and produced newscasts for WPBN-TV, the school’s television station and a CNN affiliate. For her work at the school’s television station, WPBN-TV, Randi was given the school’s Maltese Award for being named “Best Female Talent” and the John Rhodes Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
Randi is, originally, from New Jersey, but loves the warmth and the people of the Coastal Empire and Low Country. When she’s not working, she’s often hitting the beach and lighthouse on Tybee Island, running, biking, working out or exploring our beautiful area.
Randi enjoys meeting new people and especially wants to tell your important stories about education in our area. She’s committed to keeping you up-to-date. If there’s a story that needs telling, let Randi know.
