Alaina comes to WSAV from the mountains of Northeast Georgia. That’s where she was the morning anchor, producer, and one-man-band reporter at WNEG, our Media General sister station in Toccoa.
She was born in Washington, DC, but grew up in South Carolina in the small Lowcountry town of Dorchester. Alaina began her journalism career while in college at the University of South Carolina. She worked as a video editor for Columbia’s NBC affiliate, WIS. In college, Alaina also won an award for Best News Story from the Electronic News Association of the Carolinas. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and minor in Speech Communications.
Since coming to NEWS 3 in January 2006, Alaina's won a Media General D. Tennant Bryan Award and a Georgia Associated Press Award, both for Best General News Reporting. She's also been recognized for her efforts in promoting pedestrian safety.
Alaina is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She also volunteers at Wesley Community Centers, which provides services for homeless and low-income parents. When Alaina’s not obsessing over the news, she enjoys reading, watching football (Go Redskins and Gamecocks!), and spending time with her friends, family, and her cat, Prince.
