Tybee Island may be surrounded by water, but it's the fresh water that's in demand. The city is looking at building a well on the island to increase the water supply. A group of local beachgoers has been pushing to get lifeguards on Hunting Island beaches, ever since three people drowned there last summer. Now, the group is concerned that Hunting Island could see even fewer lifeguards than could be installed this season, come summer 2015. The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT) installed five lifeguards in June, splitting the $46,000 cost with Beaufort County. However, some feel five lifeguards are not enough protection.
