ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a 2012 beating death in Anderson. Solicitor Chrissy Adams says 49-year-old John Kennedy was sentenced yesterday after a jury found him guilty of murder. Kennedy was charged in the death of Claude Schaffer Scott. Authorities say Kennedy had been staying on Scott's property.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's Department of Juvenile Justice is signing an agreement to keep making urns to hold the unclaimed cremated remains of military veterans. DJJ is scheduled to sign a memorandum of agreement today with the Missing in America Project.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The University of South Carolina Choir is maintaining a 60-year tradition with its annual Christmas concerts in Columbia. The university's premier choral group is slated to sing today and Sunday. Their program includes new arrangements of "Silent Night," ''The First Noel," ''Rejoice, Rejoice" and other seasonal music.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Charleston's effort to plant 10,000 trees is sprouting. Local auto dealer Tommy Baker has donated 100 oak trees to the effort and Charleston residents can claim trees for free beginning today, which is Arbor Day in South Carolina. The idea is to plant the 100 oaks along Savannah Highway in the city's western suburbs.
